Falls, Feast, Faithful

Our guide who so graciously drove us through Yellowstone timed things perfectlyDSC03061.  We would go to places when few or no people were aroundDSC03062.  Having a sense that you have the whole park all to yourself is amazingDSC03063.  Falls like these really speak to you when there’s nobody else aroundDSC03064.  Note the large hole in the snow over the river hereDSC03065.  We went on approaching a place to have a picnicDSC03066…snow shoe hares had frequented the trail…I can only wonder what they will eat for lunch.  The tour company did this all rightDSC03067.  We approached Old Faithful and saw some yurtsDSC03068.  We had seen these before but never went inside…they were wonderfully warm and heated by pellet burning stoves…it was lunch timeDSC03069!  After a short bathroom break we went to the main even…Old FaithfulDSC03070.  Like clockwork this geyser lived up to its nameDSC03071.  It’s awesome even in the summer but the cold air made it even more magnificentDSC03072.  I never get tired of the exhilaration I experience when seeing thisDSC03073 .  The sound, the steam, the powerDSC03074.  This geyser is good to the last dropDSC03076.  Reluctantly we began to head back to our vehicleDSC03077…Goodbye Old Faithful, I wish we could be more faithful to visitDSC03078.  Leaving this area a Bison committee was there to see us offDSC03080.  Seeing them this close I can believe they kill more people than bearsDSC03081.  We learned from our guide that ‘girls have curls’DSC03082…so can you tell if this one is a boy or girlDSC03083?  Straighter horns = boy…who knew?  We went on clutching the National Park version of Monopoly we bought in the tourist shop…we just played it for the first time last night.  Stay warm my friends.

  1. Wow! How awesome. I have heard about Yurts, and they come up frequently in crossword puzzles, but those are the first I have seen. What a delightfully tour. Thanks Joe.

    1. Hey thank you Keith. You know how they say April showers bring May flowers? We say here in Montana May showers bring June flowers. I think that's a fairly accurate rule of thumb in these parts. Not always perhaps but in general. You think of moving to these parts to get your snow fix?
