Lonely

Have you ever had a day that just seems lonely?  I didn’t really feel lonely until I went out and started taking some pictures.  The wind is bitter though it is somehow slowing thawing outside in spite of the chill but it makes it seem even more lonely.  Even the moon seems by itself in the sapphire sky that I love so much.  The light can look far warmer than it is.  Sometimes this can coax me to go out when I normally wouldn’t.  I surely love when the moon is bright and so visible even when it’s the middle of the day or early afternoon.  I glanced down at my lengthening shadow and even that seemed forlorn.  Ironically this path can look very similar if we have a hot dry summer but let me just tell you it was anything but hot with the chill winter wind whistling past my head today.  This decrepit fence still tries to guard the desolate field behind our house no matter the season.  Not even the ditch that will be full and flowing during the spring and summer has even a trickle of a flow right now so it is devoid of the water fowl that are so much fun to watch.  I moved to the front porch hoping to hear at least some wildlife or something but not one bird chirped nor one car or person stirred.  I long for the warmer times when we can go out and have a nice lemonade at our little coffee table but that time is not yet here.  The kids are upstairs eating lunch and Lovely is working at the moment…my only physical companion is Sal the salamander…and he seems to want a nap.  Maybe I should follow his example…

  1. Yup. Sal has the right idea. But like me, you probably can't do that.

Spring will be here (too soon) and we'll have lots of plant and animal company to see...your State and mine. :-)

I know! Lets go back out with our cameras...you can show me around your area!

    1. You're right...for all my talk and sometimes weariness I'm not a man who can take naps...I usually hate them even if I need them. I long for the sound of the Western Meadowlarks and who knows...perhaps the raucous call of the Sand Hill Cranes that visit! I wish we could go somewhere and take pictures...I know that would be a lot of fun!

  2. Don't know if lonely is the appropriate word, maybe empty or open.

It is this open scape that appeals to me. The horizon is creation waiting my enjoyment.

Some local kids want to make the tiger salamander the state amphibian, Sal is going to have pen ready for many autographs.

    1. I think I can agree with you about open as opposed to closed and covered with so many vines and trees that you can't see out. I have seen that too and it can make me claustrophobic however at times that too can appeal to me...the jungles of the tropics at times have a beauty that is unlike any other...it just depends on what chord it strikes in you at the time. Sal giving autographs! That would be a sight to see!

  3. It is bitter cold here today too and the wind is biting.

I rarely take a nap although I feel like I should some days.

    1. Yes, the wind is really the culprit today...ugh...good news is your countdown is still counting down so it will come...it's just a matter of time!

  4. Hi Joe,

I tried to nap both yesterday and today and couldn't although feeling very tired. It has just snowed here again tonight, do wish it hadn't I will be very happy to see spring. Walking on the snow and ice, just isn't my thing and I don't want to slip and break bones. However I just had to get out for a while today, it was slippery and now I guess it will be even more slippery. Here ends my snow moan

    1. I hear many people talk about the moisture and I guess it's true we need it but still I long for the warmer weather. Snow pack is very important to us here with the snow melt coming down from the mountains during the hotter season being very important...doesn't seem to help much knowing this sometimes. I like to walk and am not thrilled when it's dangerous...it was easy today fortunately with most of the snow finally gone once again. Take care my friend...spring really is on the way!

  5. Sometimes I think it's the cold that aids in our feeling either lonely or shut in. No wild life roaming, flying or making those wonderful sounds seems to add to the effect.

  6. Hi Joe, It looks pretty barren in your landscape photos this time of year with out the snow. Lots of wide open spaces.

We have had little snow here this winter also, and alot of cloudy damp days. I would rather have it cold and sunny. Even if it is cold it seems warmer when the sun is shining brightly. I miss getting out with my camera. The few times we have had a snowfall and everything looked so pretty on the trees, etc, I was on the run to work or whatever. No time for taking pictures. Sigh.... I am just too busy and my days are flying by. I too welcome Spring and Summer when we can all get out more. I am hoping that if mom makes it through the winter without getting something that will land her back in the hospital again, that she will be able to get outdoors again and start to feel better. Even if it is on her patio. It is know fun being shut in.

I am actually taking a time out today, and didn't go anywhere, accept I took Jesse for a walk around the block. I needed a quiet, do nothing kinda day. Just doing some reading, a little blogging. Ah... so nice. :)

Well you take care and yes, keep clicking as we count the days til Spring.
Hope you are having a good day Joe, and have a Blessed Sunday, and thank you for your prayers. I appreciate that more than you know.
    Dianne :)

    1. Strange days for sure Dianne but you and Steve bring a level of sanity that I truly value. Grace for the days ahead Dianne...always grace ahead. The waters have been really troubled lately but I know for sure there's a rhyme and a reason for it all. Bless you, have a great rest of the weekend.

  8. I hope you enjoyed the day anyway with those fitting thoughts to the dead of Winter Joe. Looked like a good day to get out in the fresh air, even if freezing under the big blue sky. Here the heather is about the most colorful thing I've noticed while looking forward to Spring time.

    1. It truly was worth going out and I'm going to brave it yet again today. These days 40 degrees is a common thing which in the past...even last year would be unheard of so I intend to take every advantage of it I can! Spring can't be stopped and I am with you in looking forward to it each and every day until it arrives!
