Walking outside my Dad ran across an amazing site. We occasionally have turtles near the ponds near our house but this one was huge! His clawed feet were as big as my hand. He was tagged…we moved him with the help of a neighbor and his wheel barrow to a safe spot near a large pond away from the street. Slow as these creatures appear they have a way of getting where they want to go…he was back in the smaller pond a few days later. Change is like that..sometimes it seems it will never come or is very slow then…it’s upon you. My African brother Joseph came for a visit that was like that…before I knew it he was back in the airport leaving us again. My heart was aching to see him go but I thought our other dear friend from Ireland would be around so that would help. All too soon he was leaving too. Now we’ve no company and the season is changing at last. There’s a bite in the air that the sun doesn’t take away now. There’s a golden hue to the sun now that whispers of fall. Kids don’t have as long to play outside…but still try to hang on to the days. Sun fades quickly nowbut still the kids play on…. Fact is a friend of Gabby’s friend invited us for his 8th birthdayand it was the perfect fall day for it. Falls’ last blossoms are blooming. Leaves are changing color. Yellow is our most prevalent fall color here. We may not have all the reds of some places but we do yellow right. Some mornings are cool enough to bite the leaves and try to dampen the leaves beauty…rotting the edges…still I think it’s a frame of a nice picture still. Observe the speckles…change is comingbut we can often observe season’s change and miss change God has in mind for us. Take courage my friends, whatever season it may appear to be you are in the hands of God.
Change is sure coming . Were moving into the Northern Hemisphere . . I saw the big dipper tonight so love and bright and was reminded of that. We have had a wonderful Autumn like you have Joe.
ReplyDeleteIts been amazng .. Every site ,and scent. That turtle just blows me away. .
He was magnificent Lisa! A real treat to see. I've noticed the Big Dipper too...one of my all time favorite constellations in fact!
DeleteHi Joe, great post and photos. I love turtles.
ReplyDeleteThank you Linda. I love turtles too!
DeleteOh my gosh is that an Alligator Snapping Turtle?? Seriously that's what they're called I think. Awesome!
ReplyDeleteHis mouth opened wide when we lifted him up to take him across the street...I think he could give one heck of a bite!
DeleteAwesome turtle Joe. I am glad you got such good pictures of it. All of the pictures are great.
ReplyDeleteFall is slow getting here this year. We have had a dry summer and the leaves are not changing. they are just falling off the trees.
That was a cooperative turtle when it came to photos...moving...well, not so much. We've had fall seasons like that with the leaves. We are fortunate it's being quite beautiful this year...only because the early snow missed us I think.
DeleteGreat post. Goodbyes are not my favorite. I am fascinated by the turtle. I bet you had to be careful not to get clawed or bit. I love Fall with the changes in nature. Nice photos Joe.
ReplyDeleteThat turtle blew me away but you're right he was quite capable of defending himself. I've taken smaller ones off the road before...they clawed and tried to bite the whole time I had them in my hand. This guy likely could have taken my hand right off. It is beautiful now...that's one nice thing though winter is approaching. Thanks for your comments Toodie.
DeleteUr friends come and go Joe even the turtle.

Don't you love when they get a bad forecast wrong? Awesome!
Deleteansltly Joe The more the better. But not the other way around..lol
DeleteWell we got a lot more rain does that count?
DeleteI never would have believed one of those turtles could survive in your area with the winters. Fall is a time for reflection. Your photos and thoughts seem that way. I just wish I could stay focused, but I seem to be all over the place and never really getting anything accomplished. I am so bad I can spend hours looking for apps trying to make my computer time more effecent instead of just getting the work done. I think I am one of those people that needs to have their ipod taken from them for awhile to focus back on my other work. Anyway my friend the cold nights have arrived, but having pleasant days. Hope you are having the same.
ReplyDeleteThe gloom has returned today...not too surprised...'tis the season after all. Today I feel hopeful though the weather is claustrophobic. My ipod will be playing music in the background but I don't know how much work I'll be getting done today.
