It was supposed to be really warm today but that didn’t materialize at all…it’s only 46 and hazy outside…smells like burning leaves in fact. This led me to do what I’ve been putting off for a few days now. It was time to deal with the leaves
. We honestly don’t have all that many to deal with in reality. Before raking I thought I’d do a camera run and see what there was to see. I was surprised to find a remaining puff ball
. While there are remnants of earlier seasons the reality is the majority of things are pointing more and more to winter. I remember when this tree was all golden and beautiful…no longer
. The gold has fallen and turned mostly to a severely rusted brown now
. Out of all the leaves I saw only one or two retained their brilliant yellow
. I actually am impressed with this tarnished transition because it’s happened so quickly
. Now I’m working on resigning myself to the next inevitable season where there are no leaves
and very little color. The remaining stragglers won’t last through the bitter winds of winter
. If you don’t think brown is that exciting for a color
then you don’t know the long months of white here. This may be the last week to enjoy any color I can
. How long until the other leaf (shoe) drops
? Not much longer I think. Until later don’t forget those struggling since super storm Sandy and the elections…I know it gets old but if you refuse to vote and refuse to pray you really don’t have a right to complain right?

Winter is looming fast here.It's gonna be about 41F here tonight, not as cold as last night.

DeleteI just came in from racking more leaves. They just won't drop all at once. One tree goes. Then a week later another goes. I have been using the leaves to cover my vegetable garden getting it ready for winter. It was so warm out today even though cloudy I was in a tank top while working. I can't believe you still had a puff ball. I found yesterday wild daisy like flower still blooming. Well we have our new plow already for the snow. I just hope we don't have to use it till December. I could use a few more weeks to try and get more work done in the garden. Have a wonderful week. Hugs Carrie
ReplyDeleteThat puff ball blew my mind too, so late in the season for that! Our raking situation isn't as bad here as it was at our former house but it's still there...the neighbor's trees add to that but it's okay. Bless you Carrie!

ReplyDeleteDone and done my friend, we voted absentee which is something we've done since we often travel. The pressure is something I'm very tired of at this point but now it's in God's hands.
DeleteYou saw thru my pics what color we have here. There is still color. That will quickly fade though and at the end of this month the leaves will all be down. Hard to believe when so many are still there with some green here and there.
ReplyDeleteIt can be like that sometimes, don't know why. I hear it's supposed to get very cold for us come Saturday. I've had the flu for a couple days now and am just miserable, this bug tore through our family and none of us are over it...I pray that will be the last bout with this for the rest of the year.
